1 tsp Kosher Salt
1 tsp Black Pepper
Grill-able Toppings
2 Jalapeños, halved and seeded
1 White Onion, cut into ¼” thick rings
4 oz Cheddar Cheese, sliced thin
2 Pair of Burger Buns
Cold Toppings
1 Tomato, sliced thin
2 Red Lettuce Leaves
1 Large Dill Pickle, sliced thin
1 Tbl Mustard
1 Tbl Ketchup
1 Tbl Kewpie Mayo
Grilled Burger Method
- Start by thoroughly mixing the ground beef, seasoning salt, kosher salt, and black pepper. Once everything is incorporated separate the meat mixture into either two or four pieces depending on how big you would like your burgers to be. When the meat is divided roll each portion into a ball then press into a flat patty.
Place your patties on a parchment lined plate and stick then in the fridge for at least 15 minutes. This will help the burgers to firm up and hold their shape when cooking. - While your burgers are resting in the fridge it’s time to prep all your veggies.
We like to keep all the cold items together and all the items to be grilled together. A sheet tray or two lined with parchment paper works well and makes clean up a breeze. - Fire up that grill.
Once your grill is ready to go it’s time to start cooking and for more on that check out our Grilling 101 article here.
Start by gently placing the burgers, onion, and jalapenos on the grill, makes sure to give each item about 1/2” of space on all sides to allow for even cooking.
After about two or three minutes give everything a quick flip and cook for another two to three minutes.
This is also the perfect time to add a little cheese to the burger, it you decide to go that route. - Grab your buns, the burger ones, and place them on the grill with the insides facing down. You only need to leave the buns on the grill for a minute or two at the most, just long enough to crisp up and get a little color. You can also add a little butter or olive oil to the bread first for a little extra flavor and color.
- When everything is cooked the way you live it, pull it all off the grill and place it back on your sheet tray so you can easily build these tasty burgers.
Start with the bottom bun and add a dollop of the kewpie mayo, next add on the lettuce, then the tomato, next add the burger followed by the onion and jalapeno, then add ketchup and mustard to the top bun and place that sucker as the crown on your glorious work of art. - You can add fried green beans on the side like we did or just about anything your heart desires. There is no shortage of sides that go well with a great grilled burger. Some of our favorites include, potato salad (recipe coming soon), grilled eggplant, watermelon or pineapple.
